The "Pirchey Bezalel – A Bridge to Higher Education"

in Cooperation with the ShaHaR Division & the Perach Project

Six years ago, the Bezalel Academy opened its doors to the young pupils of Jerusalem through a unique project. The project was the outcome of cooperation between the Bezalel Academy, the ShaHaR Division of the Ministry of Education, the Perach (personal tuition) project and the Fund for Innovative Teaching.

The program is made up of two elements:
1. The "Exposure" or "Introduction" program, intended to introduce schoolchildren from Jerusalem and the vicinity to the fields of art and design. This program takes place on Sunday mornings.
2. The in-depth program: this program encompasses 110 high-school students of the tenth through twelfth grades, located by the ShHaR (Education & Welfare Services) division of the Ministry of Education and selected to be included in the program according to their talents and skills. This program takes place on Sunday afternoons.
The program extends over three years, during which it introduces these high-school students to the abundant offerings of the Academy's departments: industrial design, fine arts, photography, jewelry making, ceramic design, architecture, animation and visual communication.
The actual lessons attended by the participating students, which take place in an academic environment, provide a means for enhancing their motivation for academic achievements in the present, as well as constituting a bridge toward higher education in the future.
