A video course focusing on the conceptualization and methodology of time-based narrative and non-narrative art. The course offers an extensive history of various types of films, video, animation and installation practices have developed around the art environment in the 20th century and now days, focusing on time and space concepts.The course will explore and analyze a wide variety of technologies of the moving image and their multi-faceted relationship to the history of visual art, sound and performance.The main role of this course is to propose a conceptual frameworks for the thought of the history and aesthetics of the art of the moving image through modern and contemporary art, thus laying the foundations for a clear understanding of the workings of key ideas and innovative practices of artists that have influenced the various dimensions that define video as an artistic medium.Artists and filmmakers that will be discussed include: William Kentridge, Christian Marclay, Walid Raad, Jan Schwenkmeyer, Fred Wilson, Kara Walker, Pipilotti Rist, Bill Viola, Douglas Gordon, Elmgreen and Dragset, Nam June Paik, Akram Zaatari, Tony Oursler, Wael Shawky, David Lynch, Raqs Media Collective, Chris Burden, Marina Abramovic, Yousef Shahin, Bas Jan Ader, Pierre Huyghe and others.
