In this course we will build a series of small scale experimental digital games exploring the topics of game design and art. We will work in groups and in relatively short rounds. In each of these rounds we will work towards building functioning prototypes of ideas while analyzing and observing different aspects of the world of digital game design: patterns of interactivity and sharing, creating empathy and identification, interactive and engaging storytelling as well as different game mechanics and genres. The course will put special emphasis on teamwork and will take place alongside the elective course in game development taught by Or Avrahami. Work groups will be made up of designers and developers from both courses, while this course will focus on the design aspect of the games. The course is a unique opportunity to experience the collaborative creative process and dynamics between designers and developers working towards a shared vision, as it happens in the ‘real world’.The course will be taught by two lecturers who are, among many other accomplishments, the game designer and art director of the new game BoardKings by JellyButton, one of the prominent game studios in Israel.
