A great storyteller can pull us into his world in such a powerful way that we stop being passive listeners and become the characters themselves. Ever since the printing press was invented, technology has enhanced the means by which creators have engaged their audiences. It has opened up new possibilities of breaking the fourth wall, acting within the story space or influencing the plotline. What will the future of narrative experiences look like, given the recent developments in media forms like games, installations, video and XR? During the course we will examine this question by analyzing classical story structures, designing experimental gameplays and testing various interactive narrative mechanisms.
