This course will be dedicated to the study of Western art from the 7th century B.C. to the 17th century A.D: Greek, Roman, Late Antique and Early Christian, Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque. Each of the chapters will be studied with reference to the epoch's events, circumstances and Zeitgeist, as well as to individual artists and to the art of the past. Along the entire course the possibility of influencing modern and contemporary art will be considered. Special emphasis will be placed on masterpieces, discussing art with reference to past inspirations, present day discourse and the possibility of influencing the future one way or another.
