The Happening History of Video Art

Even though the home video camera was developed only during the 1960s' , the roots of video art can be found in the early works of experimental cinema in the 1920's and 30's. During the years, television and later documentary video became major part of contemporary art and video art in especially video art. In recent years, computers, the web and gamming were added to the on growing field. The course aims to map and revile the development of video as a tool and a content in the art field from the early 1950's till today, and explore its hybrid relationship with various media- film, sculpture, television performance cinema and new media.
