Migration and Displacement - Physical and Emotional Journeys

The participants in the course will embark on journeys that will take them from their personal experiences to a global and communal interfaces. Assuming that the experience of migration and displacement is shared by almost every family, and that all the students are familiar with the difficulties associated with migration (i.e. acquiring a new language; adopting to a new culture; feeling alienated and insecure) - the students will be acquired to research their own intimate social circles and present the result of their researches in a visual forms. They will then be asked to create an artistic intervention within a community of their choice. The course will integrate theory and practice. We will discuss various perspectives of the topic such as anthropological, psychological and sociological. In a later stage, the students will broaden their view and direct it to the wider context of Israeli culture. This will be done within interdisciplinary working teams.The course is part of DEMO – an international project for Developing Modernized Curricula on Migrants' Lives funded by the Erasmus + program of the European Council. The aim of DEMO is to develop knowledge about migrants' lives and increase attention to their experiences in academic training. The project is implemented in six Israeli Higher Education Institutions and five European universities.
