My family and my home have always been my anchor, the safe and protected place.
Leaving my parent’s house on a private journey and returning to a new house that I did not know was a confusing experience. These feelings were the starting point for my project.
In this project, I created clothing that demonstrates to the viewer and mainly to the person wearing the garments this confusion and tension. Using multiple pieces, light exposure, and heavy weights, I created mouth-shaped pins. I created the pins using laser cutting techniques and stickers.
The pins are attached to the clothing in different places in large quantities that create tension, pulling and weighing on the wearer. With the combination of mouth-shaped pins and the garments,, I convey the feeling of familiarity, protection and security, while at the same time the unfamiliar and irrelevant sense of discomfort that can be felt in familiar and comfortable places.
