'Nova Medicina'

New solutions for ancient problems, Old solutions for new challenges

What may young designers contribute to new medical tools?

How can they improve medical treatments and processes?

Those are some of the questions which we will take with us on our quest to find what  designers can contribute to Innovative medical practices.

We will try to map the diverse elements and stakeholders of the medical situation: Doctors and patients, medical instruments and medications, we will seek to understand the role of families and communities, and the impact of medical traditions and physical environments on medical processes. We will give special attention to deep layers of relevant information, looking at barriers and opportunities.

Working in pairs and teams, we will focus on specific medical fields and settings, studying them together with the assistance of experts, seeking to balance personal dialogues and impressions with rigorous understanding of medical methods and techniques.

The course will include field observations, dialogues with professionals, and hands-on modeling through multiple rounds of trial and error.

This year the course will include 3-4 visits to a medical facility in the Gush Dan (central Israel north of Tel Aviv) area.
