The fields of art, design, and architecture play a crucial role in shaping the physical, social, and environmental space. The Sustainable Development Hub at Bezalel integrates systemic thinking and innovative methods that incorporate ecological, social, and cultural considerations, aiming to promote responsible and environmentally and climate conscious design.
In the era of Polycrisis, where environmental, economic, social, and technological crises intertwine and amplify each other, sustainable development provides a framework for addressing global challenges. It necessitates balancing continuous economic and social development with the responsibility of preserving resources for future generations while implementing the principles of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals form a comprehensive foundation for addressing the climate crisis and promoting sustainable development and are guiding international organizations such as the UN and the European Union, as well as governments, universities, and civil and business organizations.
The Sustainable Development Hub promotes the integration of sustainability principles in teaching, research, and campus operations while strengthening interdisciplinary collaborations. The Hub provides tools for tackling systemic challenges, strategic thinking, and innovative initiatives, encourages interdisciplinary exchanges both within and beyond Bezalel, and thereby establishes sustainability as a leading value in the Academy.
Through research, pedagogical development, conferences, and academic publications, the Hub positions sustainability at the core of Bezalel's activities while collaborating with other academic institutions, municipalities, and civil and business organizations. Its initiatives have contributed to Bezalel’s recognition as a Green Campus, committed to sustainable design and innovation.
