Research and Teaching
The Sustainable Development Hub at Bezalel promotes interdisciplinary research that connects design, art, technology, and social sciences while collaborating with fields such as environmental sciences and education. The research serves as a foundation for developing design-thinking methodologies that enrich academic programs, strengthen sustainability education, and integrate technical and theoretical knowledge with emotional and environmental awareness.
By formulating and implementing new teaching goals and learning outcomes, the Hub prepares Bezalel graduates to lead in an era of complex environmental and social challenges. Additionally, collaborations with academic departments and external research centers reinforce the contribution of design to sustainable development and position Bezalel at the forefront of the academic discourse on sustainability.
Since 2015, the badge has been given to is given to graduation projects that meet the following criteria: projects that integrate sustainable thinking as a central element in their research, design, planning, and/or creation; projects that demonstrate personal and professional responsibility toward the community, the environment, and future generations. "The Great Sustainability Survey" – every few years, the Hub conducts a survey among students and faculty to assess the level of awareness and presence of sustainability as in the Bezalel curriculum and discourse. In the 2022-2023 academic year, a survey was conducted with responses from approximately 6% of Bezalel students across all departments and degree programs. These surveys aim to build a data foundation for broader research and influence Bezalel’s sustainability policies.
