Body-Tensioned Loom ǀ Opening of Bezalel Gallery Of Contemporary Art

Date:
18.11.21

Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem is proud to announce the opening of the Bezalel Contemporary Art Gallery at 119 Herzl Street.

The Gallery will present a wide variety of exhibitions, featuring works by Bezalel graduates as well as local and international artists. The Gallery’s guiding principle is the notion that creators are not disconnected from the world we live in, rather they are always affected by the intellectual, moral and cultural climate of the time. This notion is reflected in both the Gallery’s unique residence and the exhibitions that are scheduled for this coming year, curated by Gallery Director, Prof. Dor Guez.

Herzl Street and its surroundings form a culturally, ethnically and socially diverse area that creates a link between immigrants and locals. This is an industrial neighborhood, where everyday life takes place alongside historical sites, factories, galleries and residential buildings. Accordingly, the exhibitions will focus on the history of the building where the Gallery is located, which used to be a textile factory. The first exhibition, titled “Body-Tensioned Loom”, will feature works by Yossi Berger, Manar Zuabi, Roee Cohen, Avi Sabah and Maayan Shahar.
