The Image of Time - Interpretation and Culture

The seminar will focus on the analysis and reading of images that deal with time. On one hand, we will develop methods for reading and analyzing visual and material images. The emphasis of the course will not be on the aesthetic or detached analysis of images, but on the interpretation of how time itself appears in them. Therefore, we will delve into the nature of how images represent the encounter between the historical and the political - that is, how the act of imaging is a form of knowledge (distinct from other linguistic forms). Throughout the course, we will analyze a series of images, mostly chosen by the students; we will propose a method for interpreting images and a theoretical conceptual world that will place the "image of time" within the political and historical context.
