Thinking Art

Art has the capacity for worldmaking, forming alternative realities. At the same time, it is obliged to act within the world: to continuously interpret, annotate, criticize, and "re-write" it. The dialectical tension between reading, writing, and making will be at the center of the course "thinking art", where we will focus on the relations between theory and practice. During the semester, we will practice a variety of methods including, class discussions, movement, voice, experimental writing, and collective work as methods of reading and thinking about written and visual texts. Each of the lessons will be dedicated to one concept, through which we will develop our interest in the poetics of thought, its materialization as form, and a concern with how artworks relate to the world.
