Stories and films in contemporary culture such as the Hunger Games, Games of Thrones ("Song of Fire and Ice") return to motifs from ancient mythologies. These stories deal with the individual and social human psyche, the essence of existence, natural phenomena and so on. The key to understand the similarity between the past and present, according to Carl Jung, lies in the collective unconscious archetypes. The "hero" archetype, for example, appears in different cultures and can be embodied in the image of the Babylonian Gilgamesh, Greek Perseus, or of the contemporary Superman. The purpose of the course is to write a proseminar paper that will reflect the connection between visual culture in the past and the contemporary visual culture. The course will provide knowledge and tools for personal development and self-awareness and will expand the student's ability to write.
