This studio offers in-depth study of “design for reading” practices, with emphasis on micro-typography, and reading through multi-layered content with multiple hierarchies. We will enter a rich universe of texts, narratives, and complex information, which we will process into printed formats. We will learn about the various units of meaning that make up a text, and will discuss grid systems, various formats and various printing technologies. We will expound on creating the necessary balance for typographic design: scale and proportions, legibility and orientation, and micro-macro relations. We will familiarize ourselves with conventions for typographic structures and will develop skills by working on InDesign. We will also raise critical and creative questions regarding the status of texts and reading nowadays.

This studio is intended for whoever is interested in expanding their professional toolkit and in professionalizing in typographic design, in debating the cultural and subjective significance of enabling complex and appropriate reading, and in seeing the beauty and potential found in multiplicities of items and contents.
