Art Meets Community in the Academy | Open Call
The Department of Visual and Material Culture in collaboration with the Hebrew University Department of Theater Studies announce an open call for presentations of courses in the conference “Art Meets Community in the Academy.”
The conference will highlight courses that bring together students, lecturers, and community through practices of socially engaged art and activism. The conference will set out to open a space for dialogue where students and lecturers who teach these courses can meet, share projects, tactics, challenges and hurdles while discussing the strengths and benefits of socially engaged art courses.
This conference is also aimed at building a community of lecturers, where they could exchange theoretical and practical knowledge, share practical tools, support one another and form future collaborations between different institutes.
In the first part of the conference, the lecturers will present the courses and selected projects created in them, while addressing the challenges, barriers, strengths and accomplishments. The second part of the conference will be devoted to a panel where moderators will present ways to develop, enrich, and promote these courses and even expand them (with responders from the various institutions such as deans of students, heads of department etc.).
We invite lecturers who have taught socially engaged art and design courses at higher art institutions in the past decade to present their work.
The conference will be held on May 25, 2022, 10:30-16:00 in Jerusalem (and on Zoom)
