Bezalel encourages projects that integrate sustainable thinking as a central part of research, design, planning, and creation processes, out of personal and professional responsibility towards the community, the environment, and future generations.

Since 2015, an initiative has been developed at Bezalel to encourage final projects that deal with sustainability by awarding the “Bezalel in the Environment –  Sustainability and Community” badge. Projects that meet the criteria will receive the badge, which will be displayed in the graduate exhibition alongside the final projects.

Project selection process:

The selection of badge recipients is carried out in each individual department – the department chooses worthy projects from among the students who have applied for the badge.

Criteria: We are looking for projects that integrate metrics from at least two of the following areas: physical, cultural, or social, and that will have a significant impact on users or viewers.

  • Culture – Projects that promote critical discourse in the fields of climate and environment, that encourage sustainable thinking, and challenge norms of quality, desirability, and perceived value.

  • Society – Projects aimed at creating lasting community resilience, leading to a change in the environmental behavior of individuals and communities, and the creation of interfaces.

  • Physical – Projects that consider the sources of raw materials and their impact on users and the environment at various stages of their lifecycle. Projects addressing issues of the energy consumed during production, creation, and use. The project's impact on ecosystems, carbon emissions, and any other physical effects.

  • UN Sustainable Development Goals – Projects that address at least one of the seventeen sustainable development goals set by the UN in the field of global sustainability. For the full list.

If you have any questions or uncertainties, or would like to determine whether your project meets the requirements, please email us:
