Open Call | New Voices from Jerusalem: Art Writing Fellowship
The Master's Program in Policy and Theory of the Arts in Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem, in partnership with Jerusalem Culture Unlimited (JCU) are announcing a fellowship in the field of critical writing to raise new voices and perspectives on behalf of the arts in Jerusalem. This annual fellowship will be awarded to one M.A. student from the program to write a catalogue essay for an exhibition in a Jerusalem arts institution. This program aims to increase critical review of contemporary art in the region and in particular in Jerusalem’s diverse arts scene.
In 2025 the writing grant will focus on a catalogue essay about artists Ayelet Carmi and Meirav Heiman, who will exhibit their work at the Ticho House, Israel Museum, Jerusalem in an exhibition curated by Timna Seligman.
The selected student is responsible for visiting the Artists’ studios, scheduling interviews with them, and conducting research that will be the basis for the catalogue essay. The student will be offered a writing mentorship and open channel communication during the writing process with Shaul Setter, Ilanit Konopny, Timna Seligman, and other advisors from Bezalel, JCU, and the Israel Museum, Jerusalem as requested.
The student must currently be enrolled in The Master's Program in Policy and Theory of the Arts in Bezalel. Please consolidate the following materials in one PDF as a portfolio and include:
1. CV
2. Writing sample (5-7 pages of an academic text or an article that was recently published)
3. Statement of intent (up to one page) proposing the requested text as it relates to the artists' work and exhibition theme, materials included in this open call
• Submission deadline is February 6, 2025 •
Answers will be given during the month of February
• Grant amount: 4,000 NIS •
Text length: 1000 - 1500 words •
Text will be published in three languages: Hebrew, Arabic, and English
• Writers may submit in any of the three languages
• Final text deadline: April 18, 2025
