Being Other

The question regarding the relation to the other is one of the most pressing questions facing us today, as it carries far-reaching social and political implications. During the course, we will examine the figure of the other as reflected in thought, art and cinema. In that context, we will examine figures such as the holocaust survivor, the refugee, the mad man and the stranger, and question the proper relation to the other. Consequently, we will be acquainted with notions related to the discourse of alterity such as bare life, the big other, ideology, ethics and the gift.
