The Department of Industrial Design at Bezalel leads the design field in Israel with a record of accomplishment of over sixty years of groundbreaking innovation.
Since its establishment in the 1960s, the department has stood at the forefront of Israeli design, combining academic excellence and practical innovation in product, materials and technology design.
In the modern era, industrial design is much more than the creation of objects. It involves broad systems thinking with a focus on human and environmental needs. Students in the department develop skills of observation, listening and empathy, and learn to deal with contemporary challenges such as sustainability, medical innovation and the development of solutions to social-environmental challenges.
The four-year program provides a deep understanding of the complex relationship between material, technology and design. In the first year, students are taught the fundamentals of design language and technical skills, including working with traditional materials and digital tools. The second year focuses on the human-product interface through study of use scenarios. Students can choose individualized courses in the department and outside it. The focus in the third year is on developing a personal voice with a practicum, which offers the opportunity for supervised practical application in industrial projects. During this year, there is also the possibility of participating in an international student exchange program. The fourth year is devoted to the final project, which combines in-depth research with creative output.
The faculty comprises leading designers, groundbreaking researchers, and industry experts, each of whom brings a wealth of experience and extensive professional connections. Collaborations with leading companies in industry in Israel and around the world allow our students to experience real projects and develop meaningful professional relationships already during their studies.
Department graduates successfully integrate into a variety of key roles in industry and in leading design firms, technology companies and academic institutions. As innovative leaders in the fields of product design, transportation, technology, and ecology, they are careful to maintain the delicate balance between technological innovation and social and environmental responsibility, representing the high standards and innovative vision that are the hallmarks of the department.
