Maya Kaplan and Hassan Kurd, graduates of the Jewelry and Fashion Department, are the winners of the international competition the Global Footwear Awards.

Hassan Kurd won the Artistic Footwear category with his shoe design project, “Reborn”. The shoe was built by hand, by accumulating layers of leather one on top of the other as a means of describing the process of formation, growth, change. The design of the shoe seeks to present the 'sounds of time', a parallel between the plant pod and human life and the effects of time on its life cycle; from a small seed that grows and changes, on its way from the past to the future.
The shoe is made of vegetable-tanned leather using a wet-molding technique.

Maya Kaplan won the Sports/Performance/Indoor Sports category with the project “Bound to Move”. The shoes are an innovative accessory for acrobatic performance. The design process, both physical and digital, combines digital technologies with traditional manual techniques. Through anatomical casting and 3D scanning, the accessory is perfectly adapted to the user's foot and consists of two layers: a hard outer layer of durable and strong 3D-printed material, and an inner layer of leather that protects the foot from wear and damage.

The design deals with questions of freedom and human identity. The distortion of the ends of the body, and their restriction in the name of surrender and dedication to the limited and forbidden, led to a search for freedom of movement and a new self-definition.
