Bezalel Journal of Visual and Material Culture | Issue 10
Bezalel Journal of Visual and Material Culture is an online academic journal published by the Department of Visual and Material Culture at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem. The essays published in the journal look critically and creatively at the visual and material culture in this space and at this time.
The tenth issue of the journal diverges from previous issues in that it does not deal with one specific topic, but presents different perspectives on the internal and external mood in Israel and the world at this moment, and on what is to come. Among the contributors to this issue: Ido Fuchs and Tal Ben Zvi write about a performance from 2017 titled “The Last Arab”; Prof. Galili Shahar goes back in time to the 12th-century poem “The Conference of the Birds”; Yedidiah Gizbar discusses the issue of the controversial caravan structures; Policewoman Az-Ulay (Stage name) writes about live performance in spaces of political protest; Khulud Abu Ahmed in a personal journey tells her story while looking at her hometown of Nazareth; Shimon Adaf, in the story “Fictions,” recounts two incidents and connects them in strange and unusual ways; and Hili Cohen-Magouri, offers a scientific-poetic-speculative essay that stems from her desire to converse with a bird; also in the issue is a Hebrew translation of Donna Haraway’s article, “Situated Knowledges: The Science Question in Feminism and the Privilege of Partial Perspective.”
