Ynet | A new way to think about the clothes we wear
The graduates of the Department of Jewelry and Fashion at Bezalel continue to maintain a distinct presence in Israel’s academic landscape, with projects ranging from the personal to the political, from the natural to the artificial, and from the humorous to the somber.
The department’s 2024 graduates have undergone challenging years of study, beginning with the pandemic, continuing with the judicial overhaul, and culminating in Operation Swords of Iron. According to Shelly Satat, the head of the department, these events have resulted in the graduates becoming more caring. “The works address a variety of topics, most of them personal,” Satat notes, “and the diversity of opinions and subjects is a result of education about citizenship, acceptance of the other, and freedom of expression and creation.”
The Department of Jewelry and Fashion educates students to work in a body-centric environment and promotes multidisciplinary dialogue that includes clothing, jewelry, footwear, accessories – and the merging of these – alongside experimental projects.
