Two Animated Short Films by Bezalel Graduates Lee Dror and Dafna Awadish Golan on the Longlist for the Oscar

The films 'Pisces' and 'Swimming with Wings' have been selected for the Oscar longlist in the Animated Short Film and the Documentary categories, respectively. The award is presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and is considered the most prestigious award in the world in the field of cinema.

Lee Dror, a graduate of the Department of Screen-Based Arts, is the creator of the short animated film 'Pisces', produced by The Hive Studio. Following a family rift, Rona relocates to Japan, where she works as a family member for rent. A surprising phone call informing her of her sister’s death shakes her world, reopening the most painful wounds of all.

The film was screened at festivals around the world, including the Quebec Film Festival, the ANIMASYROS Festival, and the Asif Festival, where it received an honorable mention in the independent film category. In addition, the film participated in the Jerusalem Film Festival’s 'Diamond Competition for Israeli Short Films'.

 

 

The short animated documentary 'Swimming with Wings' by Dafna Awadish Golan, a graduate of the Department of Screen-Based Arts, produced by the Israeli The Hive Studio and the Dutch Valk Productions, explores the experience of immigration through the eyes of children in the Netherlands learning to swim with their clothes on.

The film won the ECFA (European Children’s Film Association) Documentary Award at the International Children’s and Youth Film Festival in Greece, and was screened at dozens of festivals around the world.
