Eran Lederman
Eran Lederman is a designer, researcher, and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Industrial Design at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem. He is the founder and head of the RDFD research group - Relevant Design for Disaster - which develops innovative solutions for extreme scenarios, strengthens community resilience, and creates interfaces between design, technology, and policy. His research focuses on early warning systems for earthquakes, floods, and tsunamis; temporary housing for displaced communities; the integration of renewable energy; and advanced protective solutions against warfare scenarios. His work is supported by research grants from Israeli institutions including the Ministry of Science, DDR&D, and NEMA, as well as through international collaborations with the European Union, such as DESURBS and E2i.
Alongside his research, Lederman has taught at Bezalel since 1999, offering studio and technology courses, including “Earthquake - Design for Extreme Scenarios”, developed with international partners. Since 2001, he has also run an independent design studio that collaborates with established companies and start-ups, committed to ethical, responsible, and high-quality design.
His creative works have been exhibited in museums and galleries in Israel and abroad, including the Israel Museum’s exhibition “Seated in Seclusion: Bratslav Hasidim and Contemporary Design”, with photographs sold in collector’s editions. Lederman is the recipient of the Meisler Prize for Excellence at Bezalel, the Atir Award from the Ministry of Economy, and the international iF Design Award, and serves as an advisor to Israel’s Ministry of Education and the Prime Minister’s Office.
