Exhibition | Broken Symmetries

Date:
6.6.24

The Department of Photography at Bezalel, in cooperation with the Faculty of Physics at The Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, invites the public to the photography exhibit entitled “Broken Symmetries.”

Broken Symmetries was created as a collaborative project between students from the Department of Photography at Bezalel and researchers from the Faculty of Physics at the Weizmann Institute. The exhibition features work that emerged from the intersection of photography and science, where the physics of broken symmetries is manifested in the visual realm – it is a personal interpretation of each and every one of the exhibitors.

The photographs bear witness to a fleeting dialogue or flirtation with physical ideas, with most of them remaining abstract. Explorations in dark matter, glimpses into quantum physics, ant movement, chronophotography, conductivity and magnetism, or applying transformation to objects to break their symmetry – these were translated into visual concepts and were created with the inspiration of key words or non-binding complex concepts. They invite personal reflection or interpretation, with an aesthetic bent – and the murmur of time and place.
