Graduates Exhibition | Master’s Program in Fine Arts (M.F.A.)
The Master’s Program in Fine Arts (M.F.A.) invites you to the 2024 graduate exhibition, entitled “The Bias of the Present”.
The M.F.A. program serves as an incubator that offers promising artists an opportunity to develop and refine their work practices while actively building a personal body of work. This year’s graduate exhibition includes twenty-three presenting artists and encompasses a wide variety of works created through various media, including performance, photography, video, painting, sculpture, installation and sound.
As in previous years, the current graduate exhibition is not based on a specific thematic principle, but it is possible to detect the imprint of the present moment. This year the exhibition opens following the events of October 7 and in the shadow of an ongoing and bloody war in Gaza. In the year preceding the war – this graduating class’ first year – Israeli society underwent a profound constitutional crisis. That year was characterized by a struggle for the nation’s identity and for the very concept of democracy. Some of the works in the exhibition directly and explicitly address the events of October 7 and the months of war that followed. Others examine definitions of identity, home, homeland and family history and address the history of this place. Many of the works pose questions that touch on the features of contemporary existence: uncertainty, prolonged waiting, destabilization and the sense of an uncertain future.
As part of the exhibition, the winner of the “Rywkind Ben Zour Prize” will be announced. The prize, inaugurated this year, will be awarded to a graduate of the program. The prize is sponsored by Iris Rywkind and Eran Ben Zour, and includes a grant of NIS 40,000 as well as the selection of the student’s artwork for inclusion in the permanent collection of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. The winner will be announced during the M.F.A. program’s graduate exhibition, on July 8, 2024.
