Teaching Certificate
The Design and Art Teaching program for post-primary education in collaboration with Hebrew University’s School of Education.
Art and design education is a fundamental and essential layer in an individual’s personal and moral development within society. In recent years, Bezalel has launched courses in education that combine social-communal work. The teaching certificate program launched in 2013 as a unique collaboration between the School of Education at the Hebrew University and Bezalel.
The program runs for two years, and is designed for outstanding students (from Bezalel and the Hebrew university), who are in their advanced years of study and have a social and educational orientation.
The studies are held at Bezalel and the Hebrew University. First-year practical training is held as part of “Bezalel Apprentices” – an in-depth program in which students teach youth at Bezalel, earning a grant in return.
Some of the School of Education studies will be counted towards an academic degree in the History and Theory Department. Moreover, some of the credit points of a Bezalel degree will be counted towards a teaching certificate. Most of the studies will be held in a long school day format (Sunday) for two years, and a few Fridays throughout the year.

Registration deadline for the 2021/2022 academic year is May 22, 202
*Bezalel tuition for program participants is considerably subsidized; further details will be given out upon request.
For advice on any question, contract the program staff: Shelly Hershko and Assaf Elkalai.
According to the Ministry of Education decision, all teaching certificate graduates who study at universities and education colleges must take on an internship. The training is the first working year as a teacher, and is meant to reinforce the professional viewpoint of those engaged in it. Fulfilling the internship requirement enables to obtain a teaching license, as long as it is utilized within five years of completing the teaching certificate studies.
The program accepts students who have completed their B.A. or two years of study towards a B.A. with a minimum grade point average of 85.
All students will be required to pass an admissions committee made up of Hebrew University and Bezalel representatives.
*Registration for second year students and higher is conditioned by a minimum grade point average of 85.
The curriculum structure is suited to the demands of the new outlines in teacher training (“Ariav outline”) and is comprised of four parts:
- Education studies
- Research literacy in education and teaching
- Pedagogy and methodology
- Practical training
Education Studies
This part includes mandatory courses per semester held at the School of Education in the Hebrew University’s Mt. Scopus campus:

Research Literacy in Education and Teaching

Haredi Branch
The Haredi Branch
אמן - השלוחה החרדית
الفرع الحردي
The Haredi Branch is an integral part of Bezalel Academy which offers various degree programs for Haredi women, including a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts (B.F.A.), a Bachelor’s of Architecture (B.Arch) and a Bachelor’s of Visual Communication (B.Des).
Based in the Givat Shaul neighborhood of Jerusalem, Bezalel’s Haredi Branch is the only place in the world where Haredi women can receive a higher education in art and design without altering their lifestyles or sacrificing their values. At the Haredi branch, these women are free to pursue new career avenues in a setting that is designed with their well-being in mind.
The Branch strives to be open and accommodating of the students’ way of life, while continuing to provide the quality education and excellence Bezalel is renowned for. Bezalel’s foremost goal is to nurture and promote our students’ talents and abilities, helping mold them into future leaders and trailblazers in their respective fields. Like all students of Bezalel, students at the Haredi Branch are given the opportunity to develop their skills and hone their talents, so when they graduate, they can take their place in the worlds of art, architecture, and design.
The instructors at the Haredi Branch are the same instructors as in the rest of the Academy, and the curriculum is as comprehensive and well-rounded. Students who graduate from Bezalel’s Haredi Branch emerge with the same well-developed and varied skillset as all Bezalel students, except that their studies have taken place in an environment suitable to their own needs.
Bezalel has always emphasized that artists and designers should make a positive impact on their communities and environment. The Haredi Branch is emblematic of this - its students emerge with the ability to create works that directly benefit their local communities, understanding and responding to their specific needs.
The Academy strives to represent the full range of cultural groups which make up Israeli society and the Haredi Branch is key to this mission; it contributes to the diversity of our student body, while helping broaden the perspectives and attributes of the work created within the Academy, enriching all our lives in the process.
