Master’s Program in Fine Arts | Bezalel Graduate Exhibition
The Fine Arts Master’s Program is a kind of incubator, offering promising emerging artists a unique opportunity to refine their craft while developing a personal body of work. Accordingly, this year’s graduate exhibition does not have a guiding theme. It displays a broad range of works created in various media, including performance art, photography, video, painting, sculpture, installation and sound.
This year’s Bezalel M.F.A. graduate exhibition opens in the wake of months of fighting for the country’s identity and for the very meaning of democracy. In the past few years, the academic curriculum has revolved around a clear thematic axis – location and locality – constructed with attention to the intersections where we, as artists and citizens, act.
This year’s exhibition features 24 projects – milestones in an ongoing academic journey that includes seminars, lectures, workshops, studio meetings, alumni visits, exhibitions and local and international inter-institutional collaborations.
Some of the works engage with sociopolitical issues relating directly to the definitions of identity, home, homeland, the familial past and local history. Others explore the relationship between the body and the spaces we occupy, or raise questions concerning contemporary existence and the zeitgeist of fundamental instability.
