The 'About Design' Track constitutes a unique framework which prepares designers to integrate in the world of local and international design and to maintain an active and prolific studio. The track operates as a conceptual laboratory which supports the building of an original and exploratory body of works with the desire to expand the field boundaries and to take an active part in formulating contemporary culture, while placing an emphasis on the relationship between the designer and the society in which he/she creates.
The main characteristic of the track is "creative research", which strives for the development of independent, experimental and unique work methodologies. A research action which brings students together with diverse materials, technologies and work processes and which pushes for the creation of the new relationships, experiences and narratives. Over the course of studies, the students examine the social, cultural and ethical significances of objects and the practices of object design. They analyse and critique contemporary culture and offer new ways of thinking based on the research findings. As part of their studies they experiment with critical thinking, studio work, setting up an exhibition, collaborations, working with scientists on smart materials, designing processes and experiences, formulating personal research methodologies, formulating new formats for creation and display, and more.
Below are collaborations which took place in recent years as part of the track:
- Continuous collaboration with the Chemistry Institute and the Center for Nano-Technology at the Hebrew University in the development of new materials.
- BauNow – Collaboration with the Anhalt University (Germany) which explores the new meanings of the Bauhaus Movement on the occasion of its 100 year anniversary to its establishment
- Designtist Futuristic Lab – Collaboration with research and development entities such as GM, the Weizmann Institute and Microsoft

مسار التخصص بالحفاظ المعماري التاريخي والتراثي
The program graduates in this track will focus on the Historic Urban Landscape approach – designing the urban field created by the layering of qualities, cultural and natural values throughout history.
Master's Program in Conservation and Heritage
The Master's Program in Conservation and Heritage offers to examine the increasing importance of preservation as an integral component in the field of urban design and planning of the city, from a critical approach to the conservation activities and the essence of conservation in the urban space. It will make it possible to delve into the significance of urban heritage in the Israeli reality in which processes of urban renewal increasingly deal with textures and structures of historic and social importance. Processes whose intensity and scope pose more and more new challenges before the designers and decision makers, and which require the formulation of a policy, and the creation a diverse toolbox which includes tools for social involvement, knowledge and design tools, regulation and financial tools.
The urban heritage is an essential resource of life in cities and urban areas. It includes tangible and intangible components relating to the human diversity existing in cities in the present, and which have existed in them in the past.
In it lies the potential for economic development and for the creation of social unity and resilience in a dynamic environment, an environment which frequently changes under the influence of economic, social and cultural processes, while preserving its components and characteristics. The program graduates in this track will focus on the Historic Urban Landscape approach – designing the urban field created by the layering of qualities, cultural and natural values throughout history. This method expands the concept "historic center" or "complex" and includes broad urban contexts as well as their geographic environment.

Bezalel Art and Technology Lab is an ‘art and technology’ unique research project in deep learning and its implications, it takes place in Bezalel academy of art and design Jerusalem. The project is led by two artists with a scientific background, Miri Segal (Ph.D.) and Nir Harel. We take a group of students and teach them DL/ML with a focus on networks pertaining to image, 3d, and sound. Following the course, the students join the lab in which they participate in one of two continuous research projects: the first on visualization of the network (microscope & lucid) where we attempt to create a personalized interactive ‘Dream Machine’ that travel through the network and produces video in real-time. The second project concentrates on creating realistic 3d hybrids from 2d photos and GML models using among other tools TensorFlow and kaolin.
